ramshackle things, moving pictures edition.

March 4, 2010

It’s been a good week for ramshackle things. Or, more precisely (especially in light of the recent apocalyptic daily earthquake funtimes we’ve been having), things that appear ramshackle, but are in fact painstakingly constructed and flawlessly composed. And so pretty!

An artist named Sam O’Hare took over 35,000 (!) pictures in NYC and put them together to create a beautiful five-minute movie that looks like stop-motion animation on an extensive, model-train-scale set. So, a flip book, on the interwebz! My embedding attempts seem to be failing, but seriously, click that ish.

Plus! OK Go’s video for “This Too Shall Pass” features a four-minute Rube Goldberg adventure (and a catchy tune). If you’re one of those people who love to ruin magical things for themselves, this DVICE post includes some how-it’s-done video business.

PS: Their other video for this song isn’t a crap show, either. I love Damian Kulash’s ability to sing deeply serious lyrics in a paint-splattered jumpsuit and/or FULL marching band dress with an utterly straight face. I can’t even type “full marching band dress” with a straight face. Well played, sir.
