America doesn’t care about your babies.

October 20, 2008

In three presidential debates, we’ve heard approximately thirty seconds on education. Now we’ll finally get to hear what the candidates actually think–from their educational advisors, Linda Darling-Hammond (Obama) and Lisa Graham Keegan (McCain). In a debate that’s not even being televised, but webcast by Education Week. Further evidence, if any was needed, that America doesn’t care about education, even when its education system has, for decades, resembled its current economic system: a giant, collapsing disaster.

Maybe because Obama is the most pro-abortion candidate we’ve ever had running for this position, that gives us a clue about what he thinks of America’s babies.

What he thinks of America’s babies is that their parents should be ready and prepared for them. What he thinks of America’s babies is that they shouldn’t be a punishment for the high crime of having sex. The most “pro-abortion candidate we’ve ever had” (he’s not “pro-abortion”; no one’s “pro-abortion”) wants America’s babies to be cared for, healthy, and well-educated. Which means reducing the number of abortions women need through real sex education, comprehensive health care that includes birth control, and an economy that makes it possible for parents to afford (very expensive) children. AND access to abortions, so that no child is born into a family that can’t possibly give it everything–or anything–it needs.

Obama has a seventeen-point education plan, a ten-point family plan, and a FORTY-point urban-policy plan, which includes strengthening urban families and schools. That’s sixty-seven clues about what he thinks of America’s babies.
